Job Summary:We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Machinist specializing in depot-level manufacturing, repair, and precision machining in support of aviation and aerospace platforms. The selected candidate will work in a fast-paced environment operating various manual and CNC machining equipment to fabricate, modify, or repair aircraft and ground support components.
Key Responsibilities:- Operate conventional and computer-controlled machining equipment including lathes, mills, grinders, and saws to perform precision machining tasks.
- Set up and align fixtures and tooling in accordance with work instructions and blueprints.
- Inspect finished parts using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other precision tools to ensure compliance with technical specifications and tolerances.
- Interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and process instructions.
- Machine new and replacement parts to support aircraft depot-level repairs and modifications.
- Support engineering teams in prototyping, fabrication, and reverse engineering.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment in accordance with safety and quality control standards.
- Follow all NAVAIR/NAMP standards, local SOPs, and applicable federal and military regulations.
- Complete required documentation of work performed, including process sheets and inspection reports.
- Ensure compliance with all tool control, FOD, and calibration requirements.
Skill Requirements:- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical specifications, and engineering drawings.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Ability to operate and maintain precision machining equipment.
- Familiarity with machining of aerospace-grade metals such as aluminum, titanium, and stainless steel.
- Experience with setup and safe operation of CNC machines.
- Ability to perform close-tolerance work and verify quality using measuring instruments.
- Working knowledge of machine shop mathematics and machining principles.
- Competent in the use of various hand and power tools used in metal fabrication and finishing.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
QualificationsRequired:
- Minimum of 5 years of machining experience in an aerospace or industrial manufacturing environment.
- Experience working in a depot-level or DOD/NAVAIR aviation maintenance environment.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical data packages.
Preferred:
- Experience supporting military aviation platforms.
- Familiarity with NAVAIR standards and COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.
- Completion of an accredited machining program or technical trade school.
- Prior military or government service in aircraft maintenance or manufacturing.
- CNC programming experience (Mastercam, Fusion 360, etc.).
Physical Requirements:- Must be able to lift, push, pull, and manipulate up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and squat for extended periods.
- Must be able to work in a high-noise environment and around aircraft-related operations.
- Fit-for-duty and/or respiratory physical may be required based on contract requirements.
