The Role:A key part of the MRO leadership team, the Head of Line Maintenance and Components Businesses will be responsible for the efficient delivery and commercial performance of our Part 145 retail line maintenance and component overhaul Lines of Businesses. With full budget and P&L responsibility you will be expected to take on the existing strategic intent and develop a full business strategy, which will nurture and enhance each Line of Business into industry leading capabilities delivering profitable year on year growth to Gama Aviation.
Key Responsibilities and AccountabilitiesStrategic
- Develop, the retail line maintenance capabilities into a class leading operation able to provide both contracted and noncontracted (Ad Hoc) customers with best of class service levels.
- Continue to develop and expand Gama Aviation’s Mobile Support Team (MST) AOG service enhancing the technical capabilities and the coverage expanding across Europe as well as UK
- Develop and grow the Component retail business, expanding the capabilities and capitalising on recent investments.
- Nurture the NetJets Europe relationship delivering line maintenance services within the Luton Hub to agreed KPI levels, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction. Expand the scope of services contracted, including wheel overhaul and facilitating scheduled maintenance.
- Lead, grow and develop delivery teams in order to meet the strategic goals of each line of business.
- Full Budget and P&L responsibility for all the Lines of Business you are responsible for, including commercial management
Management & Leadership - Financial responsibility in both technical and operational functions of the Fixed Wing Line Maintenance and Component Overhaul business; - including, Luton Hub, Farnborough Line, Austria Line and Luton, Bournemouth, Gloucester and Oxford workshops
- Develop Strategic Plan for each Line of business ensuring objectives and priorities align with and support the wider MRO and Gama Aviation business objectives.
- Work with finance to develop annual budgets providing operational assumptions, growth expectations alongside key deliverables
- Develop and expand the engineering teams and required supporting functions required to meet or even exceed annual budgets.
- Regularly evaluate the department objectives, plans, procedures and practices, and make appropriate changes if needed.
- Effective personnel management of engineering teams, organising into a hierarchy as you see fit. Ensure all staff have agreed objectives and complete annual appraisals as part of a performance driven culture and aligned with Gama Aviation’s values.
- Line management of Fixed Wing Line Maintenance teams, including Head of AOG/Line Maintenance, Planning teams and Logistic support teams in Luton. Direct daily activities to ensure a high standard of service delivery.
- Train and develop other employees to ensure succession planning is in place.
Operational - Manage exceptional engineering delivery to customer specifications and any agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Always Ensure safe and compliant operations across all Lines of Business and all facilities, delivering in line with regulatory and Gama Aviation policies and procedures.
- Act as senior customer interface managing cohesive relationships with our key customers, ensuring we are meeting requirements and deliver against agreed KPIs, and lead resolution of any challenges or queries.
- Continuous Improvement initiatives to drive operational efficiency, revenues and margins.
- Ensuring the Gama Aviation managed facility is always maintained in good order and kept in a condition reflective of a VIP maintenance operation.
- Work closely the Nominated Line Maintenance Manager and deputise during any Absence.
- Support the Quality & Safety team regarding their duties to ensure all processes and department tasks are fulfilled, accommodate any regulatory Audits both internal and external and ensure any arising finding are closed in a timely manner.

- Assist in the response to any emergency or a major operational disruption affecting Gama Aviation Group or its subsidiaries
Qualifications, Experience and SkillsQualifications and Experience: Essential - Recognised degree in aeronautical engineering or similar
- Previous experience in operating /managing a busy aircraft line support department.
- Demonstrated management experience in an aircraft engineering environment
- Proven skill in staff management
- Managerial skills – Ability to delegate work, set clear directions and manage workflow. Strong mentoring and coaching skills. Ability to train and develop subordinate’s skills. Ability to foster teamwork among team members.
- Good understanding of business information reporting, P&L management and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
