UnspecifiedWe are currently looking for a Project Engineering Specialist to join our team in Waterloo, Ontario. In this role you’ll be the strategic focal point, ensuring seamless execution of projects within the engineering group and contributing as a subject matter expert across site-wide initiatives as needed.
Success in this role requires a strong grasp of classical Project Management principles, including action tracking, status reporting, task monitoring, risk management, and professional meeting conduct. Additionally, you’ll integrate Agile techniques where appropriate, ensuring flexible and effective project execution. This role will have you actively collaborate with teammates to solve challenges and keep projects moving forward. Exceptional interpersonal skills are crucial, as you’ll lead and facilitate diverse teams while balancing independent work to maintain project plans, status updates, and action items.
Responsibilities
- Represents Engineering as the primary technical contact to the customer (internal and external).
- Supports and liaises with Program Managers, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and other functions from a technical Engineering Lead perspective.
- Develops project plans and work packages aligned to the goals of assigned projects.
- Works with the Engineering Manager to allocate Engineering resources to ensure timely and accurate project completion based on the needs of the business.
- Directs the work of assigned matrix-team employees on complex projects in technical engineering and administrative areas.
- Acts as a primary contact with key internal and external customers and develops professional relationships to understand their needs.
- Monitors and assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and customer-satisfaction goals and objectives.
- Monitors project plans, schedules, and budgets during execution.
- Sprint planning, retrospectives, Kanban management, user story development, etc. as needed.
- Conducts project meetings and prepares reports to communicate the status of projects within and beyond the project team. Status reporting to senior management is expected on a monthly basis. Additional, lower level status reporting may also be required to keep stakeholders informed.
- Identifies and reacts to complex project problems and recommends solutions, such as reallocating resources, scope changes, tool enhancements, etc.
- Participates in financial health monitoring of projects using EV methodology or similar as needed or directed.
- Supports the preparation of external proposals, internal work statement quotations and terms/conditions of contracts.
- Participates in building/capturing/refining internal process documentation as directed the Engineering Manager
Requirements
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience.
- Must be able to work in a team environment and demonstrate a sense of empathetic urgency.
- Proactive problem solving, teamwork and interpersonal skills are essential to this role, as well as the ability to understand and communicate at a technical level.
- Able to travel globally to visit customer or supplier sites for short periods. Travel up to 10-15, based on business needs.
- MS Office Suite plus MS Project experience is required. Strong Excel skills are a particular asset.
- Understanding of radar systems, Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems, and hardware and software integration programs would be an asset.
- Background and understanding of Project Management concepts.
- PMP designation would be an asset
- Experience with Agile project management would be beneficial
- Experience with Atlassian/Jira/Confluence preferred
