Avionics Technician (A&P Required) - Commercial Aircraft
Job Description:

Avionics Technicians report to the Director of Maintenance. Avionics Technicians must be appropriately certificated and stamp-holding Avionics A&P or Repairman under FAR Part 65. The Avionics A&P Technicians must be certified per work package requirements to sign for work per customer processes and all applicable FARs/DFARs and applicable CFR Part 14 requirements. Avionic A&P Technicians are responsible to Aircraft Leads and Maintenance Supervisors.

The Avionics technician inspects, maintains, repairs, and installs electronic systems on aircraft, such as communication, navigation, radar, and autopilot systems. Duties include diagnosing and troubleshooting complex electronic problems, performing scheduled maintenance, and keeping detailed records of all work performed. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical principles, the ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics, and precision to ensure aircraft safety and compliance with regulations.

Technician Responsibilities:

  • Ability to pass FAA/DOT required drug and alcohol program to include random testing as required by regulations.
  • Properly execute duties assigned within their respective certificate, license or skill set with high quality of work and time management.
  • Perform maintenance and alteration tasks on articles in accordance with the current technical data, including but not limited to Manufacturers Manuals, Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives, and internal/external policies.
  • Ability to use an Illustrated Parts Manual (IPC)
  • Inspection and maintenance: Visually inspect electronic systems and components to ensure they are clean, in good repair, and functioning properly.
  • Troubleshooting and repair: Diagnose and isolate malfunctions in a wide range of systems, including communication, navigation, and flight control, and then repair or replace faulty components.
  • Installation: Install new avionics systems, wiring, and components according to technical specifications and schematics.
  • Testing: Use specialized test equipment to check the performance and condition of systems after repairs or installations.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed logs of all maintenance, repairs, and inspections for each aircraft.
  • Calibration: Calibrate electronic systems to ensure they are working properly before flight. Properly record and sign for work performed in accordance with FARs, and customer work instructions.
  • Return all signed-out tools to Stores before the end of shift.
  • Follow all safety procedures outlined in company's safety manual and training program.
  • Only operate equipment licensed to do so by company.

Required Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience (10+ preferred)
  • A&P Certificate
  • Technical skills: A strong grasp of electrical and electronic principles, a familiarity with hand tools and testing equipment, and the ability to read technical diagrams are essential.
  • Problem-solving: The ability to diagnose complex problems and develop solutions quickly is crucial.
  • Attention to detail: This role requires a high degree of accuracy to ensure the safety and proper functioning of aircraft electronics.
  • Time management: Technicians must work efficiently to meet strict schedules and deadlines.
  • Education: An associate degree or technical certificate in avionics, electronics, or a related field is often preferred. Military training programs also provide extensive training for this role.
