Crew Resource Operations is looking for operationally minded analytics professionals to assist in the continued development of our next generation crew scheduling, optimization tracking, and hotel assignment software. The team of specialists will leverage data and technology to lead IROP recovery and mitigate operational risk in the crew space. This is a strategic role that will liaise heavily with our partners in IT, Crew Technology and operations management to drive Crew Resources’ short and long-term business priorities. We are seeking specialists to help execute divisional strategy, provide technical expertise, and drive the change management process. These roles will work across Crew Resources, Flight Ops, In-Flight Service, and IT to ensure development requests are well understood across the enterprise, gain cross-divisional consensus on priorities, and ensure deliverables meet business needs. To do so, these individuals will need to manage multiple projects at once, communicate effectively, build strong cross-divisional partnerships, understand how to write project requirements, and understand the crewmember experience, while maintaining a strong operational foundation. This role will be predominantly shift based and may encompass weekends to support the 24/7 nature of operations technology. The successful candidates will be trained in legacy systems and will be expected to maintain a facile knowledge of both next-generation technology and the legacy systems to manage operational disruption, while also serving as a real time end user of next generation products to solve complex operational problems.
Summary of responsibilities (not comprehensive of all tasks):
  • Responsible for articulating and driving operational strategy through technology
  • Design the strategy for future frontline user apps which will drive development and system replacements for years to come
  • Partner cross divisionally with crew product owners, Flight Operations and IFS stakeholders, diverse IT teams, and analytics partners to provide meaningful feedback and development direction based on operational utility of optimization solutions as well as adherence to business rules, applicable FARs, and cost and safety conscious practices
  • Serve as subject matter expert in not just matters of PWA, FAR 117 and 121, FAWR, and Delta procedures but also demonstrate an ability to easily translate these concepts into readily implementable solutions in partnership with product management and IT as part of the Agile delivery cycle
  • Prepare internal communications that include ad hoc reports, executive summaries, and formal presentations to articulate value delivery
  • Work with the product owner to prioritize product backlog, projects, and initiatives across multiple stakeholder groups so that IT is aligned with the business unit
  • Assist the product owner execute the development roadmap that balances business value, funding, cross-initiative dependencies, and development complexity that guides current and future development
  • Assist in writing functional user stories and acceptance criteria that enable a smooth handoff to development
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies with development teams to provide direction and drive progress
  • Define value of new functionality and ensure that the product meets the needs and goals of Crew Resources and crewmembers
  • Develop a fluency in legacy systems and processes to identify areas of improvement
  • Understand and translate operations research-based optimization product inputs to generate actionable results in a complex real time environment in partnership with FOP and IFS scheduling, OCC Flight Control and SOM groups, OTD and other operational stakeholders
  • Develop subject matter expertise for crew related data and systems that can be translated into optimal design and development

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)

  • Strong analytical capabilities with an emphasis on data visualization
  • Currency in user experience best practices and new technology trends
  • Operational mindset with an understanding of technology’s role in the OCC and crew space with a proven ability to translate business goals into real-world operational outcomes using optimization products
  • Verbally present ideas succinctly and persuasively; demonstrate logical thinking when responding to questions or providing alternative solutions
  • Ability to develop cogent presentations that can both inform and influence an executive audience
  • Experience translating a business vision into written requirements
  • Ability to lead and influence others responsible for deliverables, including stakeholders from other departments
  • Exhibit curiosity and think creatively to help identify solutions
  • Proven success in understanding and managing complex processes
  • Willingness to become the subject matter expert for your product and take ownership for its development and performance
  • Self-starter with the ability to work well with diverse groups in a time sensitive and team environment with minimal supervision

What will give you a competitive edge (preferred qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, Engineering, or Technology
  • Airline operational experience
  • Basic fluency in Delta’s legacy crew systems
  • Broad knowledge of Crew Resources, Flight Ops, or Inflight Service highly preferred, but not required
